Located in the heart of Broward County, the 36-hole private equity club has been entertaining members and their guests since 1926. But like all great treasures, Fort Lauderdale needed some polishing, and thanks to a dedicated membership, has received exactly that. The club, which is known for its fair, but challenging golf courses set in a lush park setting of over 300 acres, recently renovated its South Course and rejuvenated its practice facilities. That work and an active and growing membership, which includes a large Women’s Golf Association and more than 125 single-digit handicappers, ensures this South Florida golf landmark will maintain its lofty status for another 90 years and beyond. Not only is Fort Lauderdale the oldest club in South Florida, it is unlike any other in the area. Both layouts feature open terrain framed by beautiful trees and rolling hills that will remind golfers more of golf in the northeast than the Florida variety. Factor in superb draining and year-round tournament conditions and Fort Lauderdale Country Club’s popularity comes as little surprise.
The South Course was the major beneficiary of the club’s recent renovation project. The course’s greens, including its practice green, were all resurfaced with Tifeagle grass and the fairways, along with the practice tees, were redone with a new breed of grass, Pas-palum, which does well in all weather conditions and is disease resistant. Overall the grasses will improve the consistency, speed and overall playability of the South Course. For its part, the North Course will not go without some attention, receiving major upgrades to its bunkers, tees and greens. Additionally, the clubhouse, already among the nicest in South Florida, received a $4.8 million renovation of its own. Among the significant upgrades, the outdoor dining area was expanded and enhancements were made to the general dining room. Fort Lauderdale Country Club offers myriad of membership opportunities ranging from equity membership, social, corporate and an executive membership option for people 45 years old and under.
