Doral Golf Resort and Spa, Palm City, FlThe famed Blue Monster course at Doral Golf Resort and Spa is sharpening its teeth in response to recent technological advances that have the golf ball traveling at further distances than ever before.

The Blue Monster, which hosts the PGA TOUR’s Ford Championship each March, is being stretched by 166 yards to counter the increasing distances Tour players are hitting the golf ball. The yardage will be strategically added to five of the Blue Monster’s 18 holes, with the work scheduled for completion by December. Doral has hosted a PGA TOUR event for the past 40 years, and has worked closely with Tour officials on the lengthening of the golf course. With most of the work being done behind the existing tee boxes, regular resort play will continue at the Blue Monster with interruptions being held to a minimum.

Palm Beach Gardens Golf Club, FlNatural Everglades beauty and undisturbed wildlife combine to offer the Palm Beach golfer a challenging test of skill and a window into South Florida’s authentic environment. Framed by the Loxahatchee Nature Preserve, The Gardens begin with a front nine many Florida golfers consider traditional to the geography. Landing areas are bordered by the ponds and waterways that define South Florida.

Several holes require a carry over the wetlands the Everglades is famous for, although no shot is too daunting if you select the tees appropriate to your skill. The par-4 sixth and the par-5 ninth are challenges designed to test your nerve. The tee shots require a judgment of how much of the hole you are capable of carrying.

TPC at Heron BayWhen Mark McCumber was asked to create a Tournament Players Course on a flat piece of ground at the edge of the Florida Everglades, he did it with flair. The course designed by McCumber is now the centerpiece of an all-new development in Coral Spring that just breathes "class.” Most of the year this is a daily-fee course. The folks there like to say this is a "daily-fee course with a private-course experience." They're not kidding. TPC at Heron Bay's shining moment comes each March when it hosts the PGA TOUR for the Honda Classic.

That's when the difficulty of the course is dictated by "the length of the rough, the width of the fairways and the firmness of the greens," according to McCumber. March is also when Florida’s spring winds kick up, adding to the challenge of play on this vast 220-acre chunk of real estate.
